Vanuatu Travel Photos
Vanuatu is the former New Hebrides, a chain of 83 islands separating the Coral Sea from the rest of the South Pacific Ocean. It straddles the circumpacific Ring of Fire, and Vanuatu's active volcanoes are many. Here British and French colonial administrations lorded over the native Melanesian or Ni-Vanuatu people until independence in 1980.
Today a mix of scuba divers, yachties, honeymooners, and adventure tourists arrive to tour one of the Pacific's most colorful destinations.
